Online ArcVenture Online

Since the start of the new ArcVenture development in 2017, my idea was always to make the ArcVenture game an online experience and although some activities are accessed online such as the resources in the guide, I found during early prototyping that if I was going to develop a rich 3D environment that would also work in VR I would need to make it a compiled app for download as browser 3D technology was not developed enough.

Well times have changed quite a lot in the last 8 years and I have recently been experimenting to see if the latest in browser technology can support a game like ArcVenture and my answer so far is … maybe. Since I developed the online 3D resources in the guide, I have been using the Three.js library in combination with Rogue Engine to see if a truly online version of the game can be built. This would make it much more available to a wider range of platforms such as the Linux, iOS and MacOS devices – maybe even Raspberry Pi and would also enable me the flexibility of providing it directly through an online portal rather than relying on the restrictions of online stores like the Play Store.

The work will take a little while and will require a lot of optimisation of the models but should provide me with a better base system to do updates and enhancements and move on to new chapters such as the Egyptians and Vikings. In the mean time, the Android and PC versions are still available at half price from the usual places – and if you want to help out the development you can follow along or provide a small donation on the ArcVenture Patreon page – it makes all the difference when we get people following or donating as it shows that you guys think that all this effort is worth it 🙂

Many thanks,

Mark
